Episode 2: Why We Launched the Swift Ledger, with Nick Kerigan

In Episode 2 of the Onchain Treasury podcast, Nick Kerigan, Head of Innovation at Swift, talks us through Swift's new ledger and its decision to sponsor the Tokenized Cash Management Advisory Group (TCMAG).

We begin by discussing the Swift Ledger, announced on July 9, 2026. The ledger, which brings together 17 banks across six continents, is an orchestration layer built upon the existing Swift network. Nick explains why it's needed, and how it can enable 24/7 wholesale cross-border payments.

Nick also explains how Swift was able to move from concept to activation in a mere nine months, leaning into years of previous groundwork in blockchain and interoperability, and selecting a tightly defined use case rather than trying to achieve everything all at once.

The impact of this work will be tangible for treasurers. The ledger promises to provide greater opportunities for real-time liquidity management and yield, and helps to solve the pain point of multi-bank and multi-currency money movement.

Beyond this, we explore the next steps needed for mainstream adoption of tokenized money, and the realities of bringing it into corporate treasury. We also take a look into the future, as Nick offers his thoughts on the potential and unresolved issues at hand when considering the future of agentic payments.

If you want to understand Swift's role in the future of tokenized treasury, and how forward-thinking incumbents in the payments world are rallying to embrace blockchain and the evolution of money, then you're in the right place. Give this podcast a listen.
